No big news to report, but an update on what's going on with our friends on the RV PETREL. The tech crew that work on the shipwreck hunts have been home for the holidays, while the ship and a different crew have been busy laying weather monitoring buoys off the east coast of South America for a NOAA project. Once completed, in February they will head to the south eastern coast of Florida to conduct some off shore surveys to look for possible wreck sites. During the surveys they will be working out some kinks on the AUV (automated underwater vehicle) and the ROV (remotely operated vehicle). After that, the ship will hit a drydock for some much needed maintenance on the ship and its equipment. After April, well that's still a mystery. My hope is that they can head back to the South Pacific of course.
I would also like to welcome a new STRONG family, Michael and Tammy Rutter. Tammy's father was Richard Alton Hodges, S2c and a survivor on STRONG. Richard died in 1995 and they are seeking information on his time on the ship. I'm helping with sharing documents and web links.
