2022 Reunion Behind Us, on to 2023 in Huntsville, Alabama!

9/30/2022

The time of the 2022 reunion in Newport, Rhode Island has passed. Sadly, Greg and I were not able to go this year. Family health and other personal issues kept us home, and we both really missed seeing our Strong family. The 2023 reunion will be held in Huntsville, Alabama in September that year. It's drivable, more affordable and there's the US Space and Rocket Center there to visit! We took our kids there in the early 1990s, and I'm sure there's so much more to see and do at this point in time. I'm very much hoping to be there and have our family healthy so we can go.

There's some other news I'd like to share, nothing to get excited about, but I haven't been given the go ahead on that just yet. Soon, I hope. For now, any of you who were in the path of Hurricane's Fiona and Ian, I hope you weathered them well without much damage. I have family, friends and Strong family in the path of both and so far they dodged a bullet. Many were not so lucky. Take care, whatever the circumstances and be safe this season.

Keith Sherlie, post update and article by son Ross Brennan

9/2/2022

Back on January 30, 2021 I posted a blog with a link to Ensign Keith Sherlie's oral history of his time on Strong. That blog is still active and the story riveting. Most recently his son Ross has also completed an article about his father and I will post the hyperlink below. I really appreciate any stories or updates on stories from families. As of right now there's not anything going forward on the project. What remains to be done, is to get the plaque in the water at the site of the wreck and perhaps a documentary or movie based on The Castaway's War by Stephen Harding. Believe me when I say I'm still working on both. World events and COVID have really messed up the plans, but they have not diminished my desire to see them through. I will try until I can try no more.

And for the first time in 10 years we will not be attending the reunion. Family health and other matters make it unwise for us to travel far from home right now and we will miss seeing all these folks who have become like family to us. Hopefully 2023 will be a safer and more productive year and see us with them all once again!

Welcome to the blog!  I'm a life long Kentuckian with a degree in Anthropology, thus a nice background in research, thanks to some great profs at the University of Kentucky.  Family and historical research are what float my boat, and this project has been the heart of it for a very long time now.  I welcome input and ideas for blog entries, so if you have something to contribute I'll happily post it.
